The human family, 7 billion+ people, should live and work in the manners that reeks of high ethics and morality. We should always be striving to be good people. Unfortunately, that’s not how humanity works, and being a good person is relative. Everyday people debate about what is right versus what is wrong with society. Are you pro-this or anti-that? Are you going to show your support for someone that champions your cause? You should support them, if you feel the cause you are advocating is one of integrity. A cause that is for the betterment of many and not the benefit of the few.
As you support this champion, your integrity will come under scrutiny. Your champion will make mistakes and poor decisions. Your champion may be exposed and his/her imperfections and inconsistent behavior may come to light. At that moment, your integrity comes into play. Once your champion has committed an act that would have been deemed unacceptable, how do you respond? Do you excuse the behavior because they are advocating your cause? We love to overanalyze the misstep of our champion and give them leniency, but we present the same misstep of our opposition as simple evidence for their flaws. Will you hold your champion accountable? Openly admit the person you support was incorrect or immoral and they should not get a pass just because they are fighting for your cause. The integrity of those you admire must be just as critical as those you despise. Their morality is a reflection of your morality. Remember, there are people with morals that will follow the rules while upholding your cause. Find them, support them, and push them to the forefront. Continue to hold them accountable especially when they start getting more attention from those that may compromise their integrity.
